The Twist

Bjarke Ingels Group

The Twist is a contemporary art museum set within the Kistefos Sculpture Park, just an hour’s drive north of Oslo. The park itself is built around the grounds of a former paper mill and extends across both banks of the Randselva River. BIG designed a bold and sculptural solution that quite literally bridges the river. The building, twisting on its axis as it spans the water, works simultaneously as a museum, a bridge, and a large-scale artwork in its own right. Its raw yet fluid form ties the two banks of the site together, creating both a new circulation route and a striking architectural icon.
